Snow took Western North Carolina by surprise Thursday morning, leaving accumulations of up to 9% inches in some mountain areas and closing schools in six counties before it changed to rain and sleet Thursday afternoon. The old house Continued On Back Page TRYON, N. C. 28782 “Super Sunday!,...” At Kiwanis Tuesday The Tryon Kiwanis Club will meet Tuesday at 12:45 p.m. at the Pacolet River Plantation. The program will be “Super Sunday! Laughter and Legend". Ed McMahon narrates the “highlights and the lowlights” of the past 13 Super Bowl games. The most memorable plays and moments, along with some of the’ supper “follies’’ are featured. Bob Mueller is in charge of the program. Sponsors Sought Riders for the April 18th St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital Wheels for Life Bike-a- thon are seeking sponsors to back their efforts by pledging a contribution for each mile they ride. The ride starts at Tryon High School, Harmon Field at 1:30 and will go to Warrior Drive to Howard Gap Rd. and return to the high school. Participants will ride the route 5 times for a total of 20 miles. For more information call 859-6584. Boys Track Tuesday Polk Central, Landrum, Asheville School, Christ School at Tryon Thursday Patriot Invitational: Landrum, Tryon, Blue Ridge, Chesnee at Tryon MONDAY, APRIL 12,1982 Assault Reported The old landfill off Peniel Road was the scene of a reported assault Tuesday afternoon. At 5 p.m , Chief Deputy Allen Rickman of the Polk County Sheriff s Department received a phone call from a woman’s brother, who was home when the young woman reached her house. Rickman and Officer Jack Smith awaited the arrival of the woman’s mother before they took the young woman to St. Luke’s Hospital where she was examined. She was released at 10 p.m. After an interview with the victim Magistrate Hazel Wiggins issued a warrant for the arrest of Jack Edward Lewis, 54, of Mill Spring Route 2. By midnight, Rickman and Smith were at the closed door of the man’s home. “We tried to get him up and couldn’t,” reported Rickman. They stood vigil till dawn. At 6 a.m. Wednesday “He (Lewis) went to the back door and eased it open to let his dog outside. We entered and arrested him”, Rickman said. Wednesday, Jack Lewis appeared in district court and ro quested a court-appointed attorney. Judge Loto Greenlee recomended that Lewis be sent to Dorothea Dix Hospital for evaluation. Lewis has been charged with a 1st Degree Sexual Offense. Members are asked to be present at 10:45 a.m. for the business meeting. Luncheon will follow at 12:45. All who are interested in the League will be welcomed.
